Can the planet be considered a protagonist in AVATAR?
A protagonist is the character that suffers from the antagonist so therefore the planet can be considered the protagonist because of the fact that most of the humans (antagonists) cause sufferance.
Jake can also be considered the protagonist because he is faced with the main dilemma (of choosing between helping the navi or his own race). Although, he is not the one who directly suffers from the antagonist.
I believe the protagonist is the planet because it is the one who is directly harmed from the humans.

Well, your definition of protagonist is a little off. A protagonist isn’t just a character that suffers from an antagonist. A protagonist is the character in the story that we care about most. The one that we follow. The person that the story is about. Jake is the protagonist in Avatar, no real debate there. You can argue that the planet is a character but not the protagonist.
